Tissue Engineering and Regeneration
Research Focus
We focus on myocardial remodeling due to insults to the heart such as hypertension or ischemia. The contribution of different cell types and the underlying molecular signaling is particularly interesting to us.
State-of-the art phenotyping of these models including imaging, telemetric surveillance, hemodynamic characterization using pressure-volume relationships are performed, and are complemented by immunohistochemistry/ immunofluorescence and standard molecular biology techniques to dissect underlying signaling pathways.
We also use human multicellular heart tissue to study cardiac function and assess calcium homeostasis in isolated single cardiomyocytes using confocal microscopy.
Myocardial Remodeling
We study structural and functional cardiac changes in response to pressure overload and ischemic injury, focusing on cellular and molecular mechanisms driving pathological remodeling and heart failure.
In Vivo Models & Phenotyping
Using genetically modified animal models and advanced imaging and physiological techniques, we assess cardiac function, hemodynamics, and stress responses under physiological and pathological conditions.
Translational Cardiac Research
By integrating studies of human cardiac tissue with analyses of isolated cardiomyocytes, we aim to bridge basic research and clinical application, with particular emphasis on calcium homeostasis and intracellular signaling pathways.
